It’s better to climb slowly up the right mountain than to climb fast up the wrong mountain.
Social media is plagued with quick fixes and experts convincing you to live your life in a certain way.
They want you to sprint up THEIR mountain. But is it your mountain?
True success comes from choosing your own mountain; this means defining your destination and then planning your route to get to the top!
START MOVING
Climbing your mountain can feel overwhelming when all you see is that distant summit. Yet every journey begins with a single, imperfect step.
You don’t need to conquer the whole trail at once—just start moving:
- Want to get fit? Drop down and do one push-up daily and build slowly.
- Want to eat healthier? Choose ONE nourishing meal today.
- Want to spend less on eating out? Make one lunch from home a week.
Success belongs to those who commit, not those who hesitate.
PLAN FOR MISTAKES
Consider this – when you plan for a long car journey, you build in extra time for traffic, petrol stops, and toilet breaks. You expect delays.
So why is it that, when we set ambitious health or life goals, we rarely plan for the inevitable setbacks and temptations?
We slip up with one ‘bad’ meal, and we all too often assume our entire healthy-eating effort is ruined.
We give up.
Here’s the secret: setbacks are not failures; they’re part of the journey. Build in strategies to handle them:
- Plan ahead. Schedule ‘buffer’ times or alternative options—just as you’d allow extra driving time.
- Normalise slip-ups. View them as learning opportunities, not disasters. Research shows people fail over 30 times before they succeed with behaviour change. That’s normal!
- Enlist your support network. Tell friends or family about your goals so they can remind and encourage you when motivation falters.
When you expect—and prepare for—obstacles, you stay on course.
After all, every champion knows: it’s how you respond to setbacks that determines success, not whether they happen.
REACHING THE SUMMIT
Missing one day doesn’t ruin everything.
You just need to keep going up YOUR mountain.
The journey is what matters. Not how fast you go. Not being perfect.
